Common Failure: Pulsation

How do I know that my gauge is experiencing pulsation?

A fluttering pointer

What causes pulsation in my gauge?

Failure due to pulsation can be caused by several things. When looking at your system, consider the following:

  • Are the dynamic loading wearing movement components down?
  • Is your system media rapidly cycling through the system affecting the ability of the gauge to measure pressure?

Possible Risks

  • Bourdon tube ruptures causing complete gauge failure
  • System media is released into the environment resulting in potential injury and lost system media

Gauges can fail due to pulsation.

If you notice a fluttering pointer, you could have a pulsation problem.

Break down this common failure issue:

Causes

Failure due to pulsation can be caused by several things. When looking at your system, consider the following:

  • Are the dynamic loading wearing movement components down?

  • Is your system media rapidly cycling through the system, affecting the ability of the gauge to measure pressure?

Risk

  •  Bourdon tube ruptures, causing complete gauge failure
  • System media is released into the environment, resulting in potential injury and lost system media

Solution

Redesign your system to reposition the gauge within the system to reduce cycling speed seen by the gauge and maintain measurement integrity.
